image: Squared sketch of a 'holder on' working in a hollow steel mast, his feet at the end nearest the viewer, assisted by another further up the interior of the mast. To the left of the pipe are two riveters hammering the rivets held by the men inside. To the right of the pipe a 'heater boy' wearing a flat cap stands holding a hot rivet in a pair of tongs, ready to drop it into the pre-drilled hole. A charcoal burner stands behind him. The sketch is one of the three main compositional elements of 'riveters', being the third mast along in the painting. Slight sketch verso of two foremen in conversation.
