In addition to the standard records, the archive also holds 50,000 photographs and slides, a reference library and a collection of ephemera such as copies of unveiling programmes (the Department of Printed Books hold the originals).
It is possible to map the commemorative work of particular artists, the popularity of particular designs and the use of certain materials. Information can also be found on memorial commissioning procedures, the organisation of commemorative ceremonies and the impact of mass death at a local level. Issues of national identity, sculptural practice and community organisation are just some of the topics which researchers can explore. |
